  1. Note: On the issue of Almagamations and the need to REFORM our own Cook Shire Council, I am the last person to want Cook Shire to Amalagamate.
Self Governance is everything I stand for .However it is the SELF governance we need over what has b een occur ring in previous years, within our Shire.
I want our Shire Strong and Healthy.
I want to see people empowered NOT gaged or alienated as is the case of some sectors within the Shire presently.
Also – to join in this blog yo u do not have to use your ow n name. You may use a blog name… BECAUSE, this is a discussion forum where some people may need
space to air their views – and this might happen only if we allow ourselves to discuss issues, rather than a focus on priv ate “person’s” who need to speak U P.
All entries will be monitored for the safety of all concerned. I will edit anything that villifies, uses bad language or is aimed at disgracing an issue.
This blog is an Open forum and I wish only to stimulate honesty and a focus on the LOCAL AGENDA – given the elections, and possible reforms coming that will
    impact us all.
    Please contribute and Enjoy!

I believe there is a desperate need for a more caring and feeling society in Cooktown.
Personal “adjustment” in fulfilling ones social and community obligations should not require that any individual has to sacrafice the very thing that constitutes the” human-being”.
It is human feelings that make us all unique in a world that is on the most part governed by mechanical and technological robots – and the one thing that seperates us from them is our our “feelings”.

It is todays youth who are more rapidly than ever befoer becoming the mainstream of the Australian fundementalist society.

I believe that they should have more say as to what sort of future it is that they want to be part of, and that they should be allowed the tight to be taken seriously on all issues concerning them.

TA PK. You have a beautiful heart. Both your posts rip at the heart of issues we have in Cook Town and Cape York. We are so far away from everything and now travelling anywhere is getting so difficult.
I want to see some TAFE and Community Arts here in Cooktown or somewhere close!
I think that we need a local “inter-generational” approach that might help local people, of all ages, share more time together doing things that are FUN –

The local Markets are wonderful, but just not enough.l

When the owner sent a letter to council stating that he had already mowed his block and that they should come o ut and have a look council claimed they were too busy to inspect his block.

A short time later the landowner recieved another letter from council claiming a fine of more then $3000 or resumption and sale of his land if he did not mow the road reserve in front of his land.

When the owner mowed his block he mowed three meters outside the front of his block and his driveway yetcouncil demands that he mow council owned road reserve.

How enterprising of council to demand people mow council land and if they don’t they will resume their land and sell it.

Councils will always reflect the attitude of the State Government that created them and allows these artificial statutory entities to exist.
The ” Councils ” have no rights and do exactly as they are instructed regardless of the legal implications because any dispute with this entity is placed before the alleged “courts” who are just another State created business with an ABN just implementing State Government policy.
If the ruling fascist regime in Queensland decides to amalgamate various councils on the grounds of greater efficiency or some other dodgy reason it will happen regardless of what the members of the community believe or say because their creation and very existence was provided for by the State Parliament and not by the Commonwealth or the provisions of the Australian Constitution.
While you remain registered as an elector on the electoral roll and actively take part in voting in elections at all levels, you are a consenting party to a legally binding contract and the terms and conditions (laws) that you have agreed to be bound by will keep you enslaved until you expressly revoke you consent and remove yourself as a party to the legally binding contract.
The example provided by the concerned and amused citizen is nothing out of the ordinary and is typical of the blatant abuse of authority and lack of respect displayed as a public servant, towards the tax paying public by the individual, who could not be employed in any private enterprise if false claims for money with threats of detriment were made on behalf of the employer in private enterprise. This would be considered a crime and time in the big house would be a certain end result.
If the rate payer continues to pursue the Council or its employee in writing the next step will be a vexatious action will be lodged in the Registry of the local court ( not filed) so that the state employed Magistrate (public servant) can then reinforce the false claims made by the Council official and there is not much that can be done about it unless you have a sizable bank balance to pay another state sanctioned lawyer to surreptitiously waive your rights in the so called courts of which are just another State created dispute resolution process (registered business) under the absolute total control of the ruling fascist regime in the Republic of Queensland.

Definitely your own opinion Dan Young.

Others are suggesting options…. including a Cape York State for here in Cape York.

I’m sure there are many ways to see this and optimise on the ideas-for improving all things local.

Personally I just want a LOCAL AGENDA and support anything that offers a TRUE LOCAL AGENDA.

This is I see the main reason for the SHAKE UP – cos it ought to come from local government and “what do we do when it aint workinking” eh!

    Whose Local Government?

    What for Local Government?

I advocate we need RRR + R – the last “R” for more CIVIC SUPPORT and RESPONSIBLITY!

Local Government ought to be a) the closest to the people b) more willing to engage in social justice issues and social service development (by engaging citizens) through COMMUNITY SERVICES inside COUNCIL.

    TRUST + COMMUNICATION is key!

This is not to go on about ART – Culture – The Elderly and Youth… AND not to forget the Middles alongside other natural LA21 CONCERNS!
